Elements of the Plan
Planning for land use and the future growth and development is an important activity for local governments. Comprehensive planning provides many benefits to the residents of the community.Effective planning ensures that future development will occur where and when and in a way the community and local government want. Numerous important benefits to the entire community result from the planning process:
-
Quality of life is maintained and improved.
-
There is a vision, clearly stated and shared by all, that describes the future of the community.
-
Private property rights are protected.
-
Economic development is encouraged and supported.
-
There is more certainty about where development will occur, what it will be like, when it will happen, and how the costs of development will be met.
-
The Community Assessment;
-
The Public Participation Program; and
-
The Community Agenda.
A Community Planning Committee (CPC) has been appointed by the elected officials of the involved communities. It is this group’s responsibility to facilitate the entire planning process. The membership of this group is diverse and represents a cross section of the community. One of the primary goals of this group will be to invite and encourage community participation throughout the planning process.
